Old Fashioned Christmas Tree - 8 Important Safety Tips When Decorating

Have you noticed how pervasive Christmas on Steroids has become in the last few years? Ever glitzier high-tech decorations, over-the-top LED Christmas tree lights and gigunda outdoor Christmas displays are dominating the holiday like never before.
Although Bigger-and-Better is the order of the day when it comes to Christmas tree decorations, some people are opting out and trying to re-capture the simple delights of an old-fashioned Christmas. It's not hard. One of the best ways to step back from the brink, slow down and restore some sanity to the holidays is to ditch the electric lights and LED Christmas lights and go green. Replace your energy-gobbling lights with Real Christmas Tree Candles. Or use fewer electric lights and add Christmas Candles. Either way, you won't regret it.
The sight of your Christmas tree awash in the natural glow of real candlelight will stop your friends and family in their tracks and make them go weak in the knees. It's radiant and indescribably beautiful. Our great-grandparents were on to something. They used Christmas Tree Candles and this is how they experienced Christmas every year.
Let's say you've decided to go green and use Christmas Tree Candles instead of kilowatts this year. Finding genuine Christmas Candles is not easy, because they basically vanished from the market 90 years ago. But persistence pays off. I discuss various sources in another article I wrote about Christmas lights, but if you want to save time, it's easiest to order them from a reputable dealer. There are a couple suppliers in the U.S. who import candles from Germany and sell them online. Track one of them down and order early in the season.
It's important to bear in mind that you need both the Christmas Candles and the Christmas Tree Candle Holders to go with them. Without the holders, you won't have a way to mount the candles on your tree. You can choose one of two kinds of candle holders: the Clip On Christmas Tree Candle Holder, which you clamp on to a branch; or the Pendulum Christmas Tree Candle Holder, which has a stem and a counterweight that you use to balance the holder as it hangs on the Christmas tree. There's no right or wrong. Pick the model you like best.
You may have decided on candlepower because of the look, or because it's green, or for any number of other reasons. But safety has to be your top priority. Whether you decide on Candle Clips or Pendulum Candle Holders, make sure you are careful and, above all, use common sense. Here are eight important tips for decorating your Christmas tree with candles:
1. Make sure you get the right kind of candles.
Basically, there's one right kind of Christmas Candle and a lot of wrong ones. The bottom line: your candle must fit the candle holder. Tapers, votives and table candles are too fat. Birthday and "gag" candles are much too thin. Don't try to improvise. Order genuine Christmas Tree Candles when you order your candle holders. That way you'll be sure you're getting the right thing.
2. Do a dry run.
When your order arrives, take a few candles out of the box and put them in the Candle Clips or Pendulum Candle Holders. Hold the holders up as if they were on the tree. Does the candle fit snugly? If necessary, bend the tines at the base of the holder inward so they firmly grip the bottom of the candle. You'll get the hang of it. Your goal is to make sure the candle doesn't wobble or lean when it comes time to decorate the tree.
3. Carefully attach the Candle Holders to your Christmas Tree.
Put them on last -- after Christmas bulbs, ornaments, garlands and other decorations. If you are using Clip On Christmas Tree Candle Holders, position them on a limb that is big enough to support them (they're not heavy) but not so thick that the clamp can't bite into the limb. The Christmas Candle Clips have a swivel base. Adjust it when the holder and candle are in place on the tree to make sure the candle is perfectly vertical. For Pendulum Holders, loop the stem over a branch that is heavy enough to hold the weight and be sure there is enough room below for the counterweight at the end of the stem to freely dangle.
4. Look at the candles and holders once they are on the tree
Make sure you have positioned the candles so they are 100% clear of anything that could catch fire. This includes another limb, other candles, garlands, tinsel or nearby Christmas ornaments. Pay special attention to higher branches. Are they hanging over the candle in such a way that they could catch fire when the candle is lit? If so, you must move the candle. Make sure it is in a positioned where nothing is above the flame could catch.
5. Start by lighting the highest candles first and then work your way downward.
When you're ready for the special moment, take your time and don't rush. Don't try to light as many candles as possible with one match. If your match is getting near the end, blow it out and light the next few candles with a new match. Step back and take stock again when all the candles are lit. Are all the candles secure and vertical? Are they well out of range of anything that could catch fire? Replace the candles as needed during the holidays.
6. Use common sense and don't take risks.
Never leave the room when the candles are lit - even for a minute. Christmas Tree Candles are not a 24/7 decoration so it's best to light them periodically through the holidays when you know you will be on hand to enjoy them and you plan to stay. This might be a party, a family evening around the tree, or Christmas morning when you open presents. Even with these precautions, some people keep a bucket of water nearby just in case. You can consider doing this for peace of mind.
7. Avoid drafts.
Keep an eye on the tree if someone opens a door or window or if you make a fire in the fireplace. A sudden gust could pull the flame on the candles in one direction or another, or it could cause them to flame up or burn faster.
8. Enjoy your candle-powered Christmas tree -- And treat it with respect.
This also goes for kids, toddlers, guests, the Labrador Retriever of the house and the local Kitty. Keep wagging tails at bay. Explain how special the tree is to overly enthusiastic children. There's no need to hover. Tell them to step back and take in the sight. They can soak up the steady glow sitting on the couch or curled up on the rug.
Whether you choose hanging Pendulum Candle Holders or Christmas Tree Candle Clips, color candles or white candles, follow these eight tips and use common sense to keep your holiday safe. Your Christmas tree will radiate a mesmerizing glow that you'll enjoy throughout the entire season

Top 50 Christmas Songs

Its Christmas Time! The time to get together with family and really close friends. It's the time to share good times with great food, wine...and music! Yes...if it were not for the amazing choice of Christmas music available these days, Christmas wouldn't be as 'Merry' as it is expected to be.
Much as what we know as Christmas Music has actually come together in a phased manner over the years. First there were the traditional Christmas carols such as Silent Night, Away In A Manger, O Little Town Of Bethlehem etc. Over the years, music evolved to not only specifically address Christmas but the 'Holiday Season' altogether. Members of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers over the years have put together a number of songs popular known as 'Holiday Songs' such as 'Silver Bells', 'Winter Wonderland' or the popular 'The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)'. Widely used by almost every artist today on their Christmas Albums, these songs form the staple of today's Christmas Music. In an attempt to add-on to these, artists further started creating their original songs. Not all really make it as 'Popular' songs to sing during Christmas, but more-so become most popular songs 'heard' during Christmas.
I have always felt that Christmas Music I hear during the season, really inspire me in more ways I could have ever thought. It gives me a new sense of wonder and spirit. It adds to the cheer on the whole. It is for this reason I would like a separate host of songs which play this role to my Christmas rather than just songs I sing.
When it comes down to finding the right songs, the question at this time really is which ones, really add to 'spirit' of the season and actually give you that feeling of warmth, love and Christmas cheer? What really do you want to hear from your favorite artist? Is it a carol, is it a popular Christmas song or is it an original Christmas song? When I sit down to actually answer this question, I'd rather hear a new original song.
So keeping this in mind, I set out on the search for my Top 50 Christmas Original Songs;

Organizing for Christmas: 12 Questions to Ask Yourself

On December 26 each year do you sit down and ask yourself "what just happened?" Did you get to the day after Christmas feeling let down, missing Christ in the season, in debt, stressed out, or just feeling the whole experience was less than you wanted? Many of us do, but there is a solution, and as the Christmas Coach I am here to help! The first step is for you to take a few minutes to think about what makes Christmas special for your family. Secondly, think about what takes away the Christmas spirit during the holiday season. Once you have this priceless information, you can work towards composing a Christmas holiday season you will look back on with fond memories instead of wishing it had never happened. Now, let's get started!
No matter what time of the year it is, let's stop and take time to think about the Christmas season! Many times we do not think about Christmas we just "do it" which can lead to disappointments and many "I wish I had done this or done that" after the season. To help you decide what is important to you about Christmas, answer the following questions, being as open and honest as possible. Your answers will help you begin to be organized for Christmas, one step at a time. Be truthful with yourself - there are no right or wrong answers.
Question 1:Do you enjoy the Christmas season?
Christmas should be an enjoyable time of the year, but for many it is not, or it could be more enjoyable. Depending on how much you already enjoy Christmas, you may just need some tweaks to make it more enjoyable. As the Christmas Coach, I want to help you on your journey to a Christmas filled with more joy - one step at a time. In one Christmas, things will not magically improve in every aspect, but if you take baby steps each Christmas, each year you will find you have less stress and more joy.
Question 2:Do you feel your Christmas is out of control, spending more time looking for items than with your family?
You could reap great rewards by creating a Christmas Organizing Notebook to help compose your Christmas, resulting in having a more JOYful holiday season! By putting together a Christmas Organizing Notebook you will create a central location for your ALL your Christmas related information, at your fingertips.
Question 3:Do you find that you do not have enough time for the things you enjoy during the Christmas season?
Creating a Christmas Calendar is a way to balance your time and recording all the season's activities is an essential aspect of a less stressful Christmas. A calendar helps you to easily see where your time is already being spent, and how much time you have for new activities.
Question 4:Do you overspend during Christmas?
Creating a Christmas budget will help you to plan your spending for Christmas. All the areas of your Christmas spending from gifts, to a live wreath for the front door, to new clothes for the Christmas family portrait, plus lots more need to be included when making a Christmas budget. Make sure you are prepared for ALL the expenses of the Christmas season, because it's the little things that add up!
Question 5:Do you ask your family to help with preparations for the Christmas seasons?
One of the biggest things to remember is this is not just your Christmas holiday. The celebration of Christmas also belongs to others in your family and it is important to include them in your overall plans and also ask them for help executing your plans.
Question 6:Do you buy gifts throughout the year, only to lose them when it comes time to wrap the gifts?
One easy way to tackle the "Lost Gift" problem is to identify and use one location to put ALL your Christmas gifts, as you buy them throughout the year. Many of us are proud for finding just the perfect gift for someone long before Christmas, only to be stressed out and sometimes having to buy another gift, simply because we cannot find the original gift! By tackling this problem, with a central gift location, you will be able to reduce stress as well as the cost of gifts that would need to be replaced.
Question 7:Do you plan to send Christmas cards?
If you did not send cards this past year (but wanted to) or the cards you did send did not go as planned, developing a system for sending out cards will greatly help. When making a Christmas card list, mark beside each person the priority of a card for them. For example, in my house if you get a gift from our family, you are a low priority on the Christmas card list, but those we do not send gifts to, are a high priority, as are family and friends who live far away. By grouping recipients by priority and working each group one at a time, you will be more likely to get your cards signed, sealed and delivered!
Question 8:Do you purchase gifts with a purpose?
Gift buying should not be about how much you spend or about purchasing a gift just for the sake of having a gift. Early in the year begin taking notes in your Christmas notebook about each person you will be buying gifts for this holiday season. Then when you hear them talk about a like (or dislike) write it down! This strategy will help you narrow gift ideas and to help you select gifts that will let the recipient know you were thinking of them - like a plate of their favorite cookies, a magazine subscription or a fun stocking filled with their favorite snacks.
Question 9:Do you celebrate Christmas as just one day?
By celebrating the entire Christmas season - from the first Sunday of Advent(there are 4 Sundays of the Advent season - the four Sundays before Christmas Day) until Epiphany (January 6th) - you can truly embrace the entire holiday season, before, during and after Christmas day. Take time to write down how you can expand your Christmas celebrations throughout the ENTIRE holiday season, not just one day in your Christmas notebook.
Question 10:Does the word "entertaining" scare you?
If you shy away from entertaining at Christmas because it seems like an overwhelming task, consider having informal gatherings. Get-togethers such as decorating parties, cookie exchanges, movie nights, game night, etc. can be the alternative to formal entertaining.
Question 11:Do you know when your favorite activity will take place this year?
Many organizations that conduct Christmas related activities know well in advance the actual dates for the upcoming year. Go ahead and give them a call now to find out the date, and put it on your calendar so you do not plan other activities on that date.
Question 12:Does your family eat out more than you plan during the month of December?
Eating out can take a "big bite" out of your budget, especially when it wasn't "in" the budget. Many times we eat out just because we are too tired, and it seems like the simple solution for dinner. During the months leading up to the Christmas season, begin making double meals when you cook, putting one in the freezer for those hectic December days when you are too tired to cook. Not only will you save money by not eating out, most cases it will take less time to fix your meal from the freezer than to go out to eat!
