KC may not be the first place on most people's list for vacations, but it should certainly not be the last either. There is plenty to do, see, eat, and enjoy in the area and whether you are a sports fan, an art lover, a shopping enthusiast, or you just love seeing the country, KC is a great place to enjoy. Planning a vacation to Missouri is easy and fun.
Begin by choosing a hotel that is centrally located to most attractions, as well as clean and safe. Be sure the rooms have been treated by Central Kansas pest control or Kansas pest control so your vacation will be bug-free. Next, plan to rent a car, even if you are only a few miles from the best attractions and destinations. The land is flat and open, so driving is a great deal of fun in Missouri. Finally, create an agenda so you are sure to do and see the best of what the city has to offer.
Your agenda should include plenty of meals at barbecue joints. KC Masterpiece is a brand of BBQ sauce most people have samples from their local grocery store and the company has a chain of restaurants in KC. In addition, try a few local out-of-the-way places and take time to really enjoy the regional flavor of KC barbecue.
Unlike some of the barbecue styles you may find on the East Coast or in the South, KC uses wet barbecue, so plan to get good and sloppy. The moist, tender meats are dripping with the tang and spice of specially blended sauces that have marinated the food to the perfect flavor. Many of the side dishes like corn bread and baked beans are just as good as the entrees.
Once you are stuffed full of barbecue, you will need time to walk around and lose some of the extra pounds you put on. The Plaza is an area of KC that is filled with cafes, boutiques, art shops, and handcrafted items. There are also sculptural finds and tree-lined paths, so it is the perfect place to browse, relax, take photos, and enjoy the warm Missouri sunshine.
Nearby The Plaza and downtown are the KC Zoo and the IMAX. If you are traveling with kids, you will want to schedule plenty of time to check out these attractions. The IMAX shows educational films on a humongous screen and families can learn about wildlife, space, or the earth in big ways. The zoo is filled with everyone's lovable favorites and is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Finally, be sure to take in one of the local sports before heading home. KC is home to the Royals Major League Baseball team and the Chiefs NFL team. The stadiums are located right next to one another and share parking facilities. While the Royals have been on a downswing for decades, the ballpark is a sight to behold, so if you can, plan a trip to the city during baseball season.
