VACATION IN NEW YORK: Top Things to Do in New York City

VACATION IN NEW YORK

No matter who you are you should visit New York City at least once in your life. New York is not only one of the largest cities in the world, but it is also one of the most exciting and interesting cities you'll ever visit. The scene of so much cultural history, New York City has something for everyone.
Here are just some of the things you can do when you visit New York. And by the way, one of the very best ways to experience the city is by staying in a New York vacation rental.
New York apartment rentals are homes owned by New Yorkers which are rented on a short term basis to visitors. Rather than staying in a boring hotel room you can have your own luxurious short term New York apartment right in the center of the action where you can live like a New Yorker for a few days, a week or more.
Once you're comfortably situated in your own New York apartment strike out and visit some of the world famous sites. Right at the top of the list has to be the Empire State Building. Well-known to virtually everybody, this national historic landmark is more than a quarter of a mile high and towers over the heart of Manhattan.
While you're there, consider taking a New York Skyride. This 22 minute virtual tour lifts off from the top of the Empire State Building Observatory and takes you to see all the sites of the city.

Be sure to take a walk in Central Park too. This unique green space is located right in the heart of the city and features over 840 acres of landscaped and recreational areas that include a zoo, a theatre, sports facilities, lakes, food, entertainment and lots more.
While in Central Park be sure to visit the Wildlife Center where you can see more than 1400 animals and 130 different species.
If you are there between April and October you can rent a boat and go rowing on Central Park Lake, or hire a gondola and have someone else do the work.
Sports fans will absolutely want to visit Yankee Stadium in the Bronx - the old historic version if you get there before it is demolished in 2009, or the brand new version currently being built. The new Yankee Stadium is scheduled to open sometime in 2009.
Another must for sports fans is an "all access tour" to Madison Square Garden, home of the NBA Knicks, WNBA Liberty and NHL Rangers. MSG is considered by many to be the world's most famous sport and entertainment arena.
The list of tourist highlights in New York City is virtually endless. You will almost certainly want to visit Times Square, Ground Zero, Wall Street, take a tour of the United Nations, and hop on the city's best free ride - the Staten Island Ferry.
